A new addition What is a Hoiho? "Hoiho" is the Maori word for the Yellow-Eyed Penguin, the rarest penguin in the world. It translates to "Noise Shouter". Find out more about this endangered penguin from the Yellow-Eyed Penguin Trust, the New Zealand Department of Conservation, the Kiwi Conservation Club, and the Otago Museum. We chose "Hoiho" as our kennel affix as a way of honoring Penguin, the bitch who gave us our start in conformation showing. Those who have met her know she is indeed a "rare" Penguin! It is also a very short word, giving us a lot of flexibility when we name puppies in keeping with the AKC's name-length limit. |
